Chirp chirp

These little guys hatched last week...born of glue, tissues, paint and pipe-cleaners. Loved making the little hat. I've seen these hats everywhere and I don't know if it's just me, but stick one on just about anything (except John Howard) and the cute meter rises.

I was thinking making heaps more for Easter to sit in little baskets...but have cooled on the idea. I've had a succession of minor craft disasters lately. I found two white lamps (with cream shades) for $10 at a garage sale and decided to paint one a lovely deep gold...everything was going really well...until I plugged it in - instead of a lovely, shimmery gold, the light reflected a murky, patchy, blotchy shadow. Sigh. So think I'll cover them with fabric instead.

Just over a week ago Emma and I had a delightful dinner with Nicole from Craftapalooza on her whirl-wind tour of Melbourne. As we feasted on delightful Japanese food we discussed crafting, blogs, work, books, life and love. Thanks for a great night, Nicole.

This is an old photograph of my Mum (last on right). My Mum was a nurse and my Dad, an ambulance driver - that's how they met. This photograph was taken at an Ambulance picnic day and according to Dad, Mum is wearing a blue and white striped dress that she made herself. I love this photo, so "Ladies Bring A Plate".

Last days of summer.

Here are some of my Dad's tomatoes. They aren't very big but they are so sweet & with a tiny sprinkle of sea-salt and a generous grind of pepper - they are divine. Summer is literally burning itself out. The the next few days are going to be hot, hot, hot. So if you're this side of the sun, hope you have a cool weekend.

Bunny Love

Nothing like a leisurely arvo tea in the garden....made these three cuties Saturday afternoon...the messy stitching looks even worse in daylight - but they were fun to make.

The latest edition of Martha Stewart Living inspired me to dig out all my old knitting needles. I'm a poor knitter - fine tackling a scarf - but anything more than that and I'm a mess, but I love the clack, clack of the needle and the colours are beautiful. Em took these photos of my collection. Some belonged to my Mum but many were found in an old battered red bag at an estate sale over a year ago. I think I got the entire bag for $1. Bonus! Just looking at these colour combination makes my mind hum with ideas.

Emma took this photo last week in a little country town called Maldon. I love it. I can't quite say why but it captures how I'm feeling today; in between things, not one thing or another, thinking about the past and the future. Pretty sure that doesn't make much sense but it's as if the picture is reminding me of all the layers a person has to their life.
